Blog #16: Photo Analysis
April 10-14, 2023
This photo uses Leading Lines. The leading line of the sidewalk points the viewers' attention towards the school. This photo shows how beautiful the school is as the sun comes up. Giving off the vibe that we are in a new “dawn” or a new day and that we are ready for change.
This photo uses the Rule of Thirds to place the subjects of the photo (Addelaide and I) on the right side of the photo and not directly in the middle. And even with everything going on in the back the viewers' eyes are directly drawn to the subjects. As you can see are dressed like sailors, which tells a story in itself by implying they are doing some sort of theatre activity.
This photo uses the compositional guideline of Framing. The purple boarder creates a frame around the girls face automatically creating the feel of a “picture within a picture” and drawing attention to what is within the frame. I love this photo and how it shows a loving relationship between the girls. Giving that feel that everyone at clearwater is family. And as a family we should want all clubs and sports to have equal opportunities to be successful.
I am not sure if this photo 100% fits the co positional guideline I think it does. But just by looking at the photo I feel as if it uses the guideline of Bird’s Eye View. Because of the way the shot is elevated and above the boys. But if I had to consider another guideline it fits, I would also say that I can see this shot being is The Rule of Centered. Because of the way the boys are placed in the center of the frame.
A compositional guideline used in this photo is Filling the Frame. Because of the lack of negative space in the photo. The photo is very close up to the girls. While yes, there is some negative space, but the majority of the frame is filled with their red jerseys. Which is why I consider it to have aspects of filling the frame.
