Blog #10: Photo Planning

My influence from this shoot came from my love for People Magazine and the way that they format their covers and articles. Such as on the shoot they have one cover model/ central image with tons of coverlines and secondary images hinting towards articles (mostly interviews) in the magazine. And I also like the way they include visual elements in their articles/interviews like pictures of people walking, talking, and even posed pictures as well. So that is my idea for the photoshoot put instead of famous celebrities I would like to do it with the students and faculty of Clearwater High. As for camera settings, I plan to use a deep aperture because it makes the photos look clearer. The techniques I will use are medium shots, wide shots, and close ups. Because I feel as if these will help me translate what I am writing about through photography.
However, for the lighting of my photos I could not decide if I should do ambient, dramatic, and reflector. For the cover I considered using either ambient or dramatic, but I then came to the realization that I am trying to depict the school in a positive light and the purpose of my article is to give them feedback on things they can do to improve the school for all students and faculty. So, after coming to this realization I decided that Ambient lighting would be the best because it would give the mood of the school stepping into a new day; one that everyone and every extracurricular is equal. And for photos I take for my article I want to use reflector lighting because it looks nicer, and it gives an overall happier mood.
Since my setting is around clearwater high during the day the compositional guidelines I chose are the rule of thirds and figure to ground because I believe these will be the most doable with my given setting. And as for my models I do not need any costumes or props for them I want them to be their most authentic self and just wear what they would wear on a casual day. That is why most of the photos I take I want to be an off-guard photo of them doing everyday things but for a select few photos such as ones I take after I interview someone, I will just pose them up against a wall smiling to the camera.
All things considered, the equipment I will need for this photo shoot consists of a DSLR camera, a phone camera, and a reflector. Unfortunately, there are some dangers that come with this photoshoot such as getting the perfect lighting for the photo at the time of day I need it at. Another danger is me; In the past I noticed that even when I take picture on a DSLR camera the photos still look like they came from an outdated phone. So, for this shoot I need to really use and get better at my technique such as lighting, camera angle/shot, and using compositional guidelines.
