Prevention vs New Scientist Vs Good Housekeeping:
When comparing the Prevention magazine to the 2 magazines I previously analyzed I found more similarities than differences. For instance, all the anchorage included on the cover are related to the central image. And unlike most magazines that have a central image with some secondary images on the cover these three magazines have one main central image with no secondary images included. However, like most magazines they all included coverlines advertising the contents that will be found within the magazine. All three magazines also use different fonts on the cover. However, when it comes to the masthead on every issue it is one specific font that may differ in color from issue to issue. And when describing the table of contents, they are (like the cover) remarkably similar. They all use the same categories/ subheading in every issue but just contain different stories/articles in them. However, there are some contents in each they will be found in every issue. For example, In the magazine Prevention every issue will have an ‘Editor's Note’ section that can be found in the back of the magazine. Another difference Iin these three is that they differ in size because the Good Housekeeping magazine ranges from 100-120 pages while Prevention is about 92-96 pages long while New Scientist is only around 52 pages long. And lastly another difference is that while the other two magazines only have a page long table of contents the table of contents in Prevention is two pages long. What I learned from this is that many magazines use similar conventions and ways they set up the entirety of the magazine. So, it is important magazines put their owns spin on it and create their own mood/ atmosphere to make the magazine more suited for their general audience.
