People Magazine:

The Magaine I choose to review is the August 1, 2022, issue of people magazine. This Magazine falls under the celebrity entertainment genre. The contents in this magazine usually include items such as celebrity news and gossip. As well as some new and exciting feature stories to draw in readers. The target audience for this magazine are usually young women ranging from anywhere between the ages of 16-30. This is because these are the people who are the most interested in the daily lives of celebrity behind the scenes in. They easily draw in these people who just like to know what is going on in Hollywood by reporting on things such as scandals, engagements, breakups and many more to keep these readers returning. 

 

Cover:

In this magazine issue along with many others by this brand have many stand out features. Such as the use of bold words to hint to readers of their exciting new feature story. And or the main thing that is happening in the point in time. They are used to automatically draw the readers' attention to this big news. The cover also includes minor stories found in the issue. These appeal to the target audience because they cannot wait to find out the latest scoop of what is going on in Hollywood. And they love to see what their favorite celebrities have been up to lately. 

Magazine Content:

The content readers should expect to see in this issue of People Magazine along with their other issues is news about celebrities and what is going on in their lives. They always have one major news event that makes the cover and is the feature story of the magazine. In this case it is Jennifer Lopez marrying Ben Affleck for the second time. They also included a section titled “Scoop” in every issue of the magazine. This includes smaller stories about other celebrities and just keeping readers updated on what is going on with them. For example, this issue includes Modern Family star Sarah Hyland and her preparing herself for her upcoming wedding. Along with celebrity entertainment they also included lots of secondary coverage such as beauty tips and news that is sweeping the world at the time. In this issue they touched on the case of Alex Murdaugh and how he was charged for the murder of his wife and son. This overall appeals to the younger crowd of people who are interested and not only celebrities but also just what goes on in their lives when they are not on camera. However, there are some aspects of this magazine that draw in people interested in beauty as well because they have many inspired beauty tips. But this magazine mostly appeals to younger women who come for the celebrity entertainment and beauty tips. But I could also see someone who is just interested in finding out about important news picking People Magazine and not being entirely disappointed. 

2 Page Spread:

This page is set up like a collage. It contains pictures of multiple celebrities and then it goes one to have short captions of what they were doing. This spread consists of two parts entitled 'Star Tracks' and 'Stars in the Sun'. They both include good visual elements that will draw your attention to the page. The first portion called Star Tracks just updated readers of what events certain celebrities have participated in whilst Stars in the Sun updates the reader on recent vacation spots celebrities have been spotted. The best thing about this Spead is, as mentioned before, the length of the captions. They do an exceptionally good job at updating their readers on what some of their favorite celebrities are up to in under 2 sentences. For instance, they have Lizzo on this spread. In which they stated Lizzio hit the stage at Americans Expresses Lizzoverse pop-up to celebrate her new album on July 15th. They gave the reader all the information they needed to know but in a quick and less time-consuming manner.  This is important for the audience they have because their audience consist of young people who are on social media. And social media being so quick and fast-moving people's attention span have decreased so having short caption explaining what celebrities have been doing opposed to a wordy paragraph is perfect.  This is important for the audience they have because their audience consist of young people who are on social media.
